SUNY Digital Learning Environment (DLE) Transition Update

SUNY has selected Desire2Learn (D2L) Brightspace to replace Blackboard as the SUNY-wide Digital Learning Environment(DLE) and course management system. After consultation with shared governance, Dr. Cardelle and Cabinet have established the timeline for our transition which will occur gradually between fall 2022 – summer 2023.  SUNY Oneonta’s Support Team is already busy working in several SUNY DLE working groups planning for this migration.

In May 2022 the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center and IT Services will begin working on our college-specific transition process with training for faculty slated to begin in the fall of 2022.  We are planning a pilot for our early-adopter faculty  to take place during the Spring 2023 semester, with additional training for all faculty to be offered during  spring 2023 and extending into the summer.(Additional information for those interested in early adoption will be shared in August.) These trainings will be in a variety of modalities (in-person, online, synchronous and asynchronous) and will be geared towards different levels of comfort and experience with DLEs(beginning, moderate, expert).

Brightspace D2L will be used for all courses beginning with the Summer 2023 and Fall 2023 semesters.

Additionally, SUNY Oneonta has broadly used our Blackboard environment with many offices and organizations to deliver content, messaging, and to collaborate outside of course areas.  If your office or organization has used Blackboard in this way, please contact the IT Service Desk so that we can arrange a consultation to discuss what the move away from Blackboard looks like for your area. By contacting us as soon as possible, we can ensure a smooth transition plan.
