The Fashion & Textiles program in the Department of Human Ecology has partnered with Sustainable Fashion Week (SFW), a platform for emerging, established, and vintage designers to showcase their ethical and sustainable creations and the first of its kind on the east coast. Bharath Ramkumar, Assistant Professor of Fashion & Textiles, is one of the organizing committee members and a co-editor for this event, which was created as an equal and diverse platform for change makers in the fashion industry. This 6-day global event premieres on YouTube at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11. Each night will showcase collections from emerging and established sustainable clothing designers and vintage collectors, in addition to expert talks, musical and dance performances, brand presentations and more.
Representing SUNY Oneonta, a recent graduate of the Fashion & Textiles program – Janaya Nyala Josephs – will be showcasing her sustainable design collection at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12. In addition, the show will feature an awareness video created by the students of the Revival of Apparel Club (RAC) at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16. The music for this video was created by the students in the Music Department.
